The Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson won the toss and invited India to bat first.

Speaking at the toss, Kohli also claimed that the main focus for his team will be on executing their gameplan properly.

"We would have bowled first. We are ready for doing the other thing, the difficult things in Tests, especially in conditions that are not your own," Kohli said.

"As batsmen, we need to figure out how to score runs. That's up to the individuals to score runs, and it's all about executing that out here."

"We aren't here to show that we can play in these conditions. We have done it before, and we just need to execute everything properly," he added.

After losing the first Test match by 10 wickets, the visitors will be looking for redemption in the second game of the two-match series.

India are also without their star pacer Ishant Sharma, who once again suffered a right ankle injury in training.

The Delhi pacer bowled fine during India's net session on Thursday, however, he did not take part in any sort of training on Friday after allegedly informing the team management about his pain in his right ankle and was replaced by Umesh Yadav in the playing 11.

The tourists also made one more change with Ravichandran Ashwin getting dropped for Ravindra Jadeja.

The toss got delayed by 45 minutes at Christchurch due to rain, causing a late start to the match.

Speaking at the toss, Kane Williamson said: "We came here, looked at the surface, and its history and figured all-pace was the way to go. There should be pace and bounce, so there's ample opportunity for us to score as well after it hardens up," Kane Williamson said.
