Team India batsman Ajinkya Rahane's long-standing personal record came to an end on Saturday (February 22) during India's first Test match against New Zealand at Basin Reserve.

As day two action resumed in Wellington, India got off to yet another horrid start and managed to add just 43 runs and ended up losing all 5 remaining wickets against a steaming Kiwi pace attack.

Overnight batsmen Rahane and Rishabh Pant were involved in a horrible mix-up in the 59th over in their attempts to take a quick single.

Tim Southee bowled a back of the length delivery which Ajinkya dispatched easily towards the point region and initiated for a single. Pant, after a hesitant start, yelled "no" for the run but it was too late as Ajaz Patel had already collected the ball in a flash and pulled off a direct hit from a long way out.

Pant returned to the dressing room after scoring 19 runs due to Rahane's poor call for a single. Incredibly, this was also the first-ever time that Rahane was involved in a run-out dismissal in his career.

The collapse of wickets kept going after that as Southee rocked Ravichandran Ashwin's stumps on the very next delivery and dismissed him for a duck.

Rahane himself departed soon after, edging an easy catch to BJ Watling behind the stumps.

He was the top run-scorer for India, hitting 46 runs off 138 balls.

Debutant Kyle Jamieson and Southee picked up the remaining two wickets of Ishant Sharma (5) and Mohammed Shami (21) for the BlackCaps as the visitors were bundled all-out for 165 runs, the 2nd lowest 1st innings totals for India under Virat Kohli's captaincy.
