MS Dhoni is India's number one choice behind the stumps going into World Cup 2019. Dhoni's place, which came under scanner after his poor show with bat in 2018, is certain in the mega evernt after his great show with bat in Australia series and his continued brilliance with gloves.

Dhoni also brings another important assest to the team - his experience. The Indian team management and selectors realise the importance of Dhoni to this Indian team and have backed the former Indian captain.

However, there are also speculations that the 2019 World Cup could be Dhoni’s last outing and he may announce his retirement after the mega event.

Chief selector MSK Prasad was recently asked the same question but he said that any such discussion has not taken place.

“We have definitely not discussed this. Because prior to such a big tournament, I do not think it is wise to get distracted, since all energies are geared towards preparing well for the World Cup,” he told ESPNCricinfo.

Dhoni may have not produced the same amount of runs in the last year but Prasad said that his form will get better with the number of matches he plays. Prasad also said that IPL will be a great opportunity for Dhoni to find the groove again.

“Importantly, before India head to the World Cup, he will be playing the IPL. So he will be playing in 14-16 matches - all high-intensity games. That will only help him extend that form he has caught on the Australia and New Zealand tours. I am very happy with his batting,” he added.
