MS Dhoni - the name is enough to bring in memories all the World Cups India has won under his leadership. However, after passing on the baton to Virat Kohli, speculation around the wicketkeeper's future started doing the rounds.

Talking about if Dhoni will make a grand exit or will he just quietly move on to the next chapter of his life, former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara, believes the former India captain might never make an official statement about his future.

Speaking to Indian cricket expert and commentator, Harsha Bhogle, for Crizbuzz, the ex-Sri Lanka captain asked Indian cricket lovers to not expect a word on the topic from the Ranchi lad.

When asked when is the right time for Dhoni to hang up his boots, Sangakkara said: “It changes from player to player. Sometimes, retirement does not require an official statement or a press release. Some cricketers just step aside and leave the arguing, speculation and everything else to others.”

Sangakkara added that the 39-year-old would be enjoying others debate about his future while in his own mind, the entire plan would be absolutely clear.

“I believe MS Dhoni is a person who'd like others to argue upon what he should be doing. He very well knows what's best for him,” he added.

When asked if he sees Dhoni making a comeback, Sangakkara said that the veteran wicket-keeper batsman would leave the decision in the hands of the selectors. He added that Dhoni would enjoy playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for as long as he feels like.

“For MS, he will leave the decision of him being selected or not to the selectors. He respects the system that he will leave it up to others. He may decide to make a formal statement about his future but I think he is very secure about who he is, his cricket, his family,” Sangakkara stated.

“Don't think he will care much whether he gets picked for India or not. He will be happy playing just for Chennai Super Kings and you will suddenly find him not turning up for training for Chennai. That is when you will realise that Dhoni has decided to retire completely. Everyone's different,” he further explained.

Sangakkara even feels the iconic cricketer knows what's best for him. “I think MS is an individual who is secure and confident in who he is and how he makes his decisions. He knows what's best for him, his team and his country,” the Sri Lankan stressed.

Dhoni last played for India in the 2019 ICC World Cup semi-final against New Zealand and was to make a return to the field with the IPL. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the cash-rich tournament is shifted to a later date and could possibly be held in the UAE.

As for Sangakkara, he called it quits in 2015 with a grand farewell.
