MS Dhoni is India's greatest cricketer ever- for this one reason, says Kapil Dev

Only two captains in Indian cricket have lifted the World Cup - Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.

Now MS Dhoni, the hero of 2011 World Cup, has got the ultimate compliment from 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev.  Kapil Dev, considered India's greatest all-rounder, heaped high praise on MS Dhoni and called him the greatest cricketer India has ever produced at a recent event. 

Kapil also gave a very good reason for saying this. He said that he respects Dhoni for always putting his country before himself. "MS Dhoni is the greatest player India has ever produced. He played 90 Tests and then said let's give a chance to the youngsters. Dhoni did that and hats off to him for putting his country before himself," Kapil said to a TV channel. 

Dhoni had announced retirement from Test cricket in 2014 before stepping down as the captain of the ODI and T20I sides in January 2017. 

Another Indian great Sunil Gavaskar, who was also present at the event, even imagined an ideal scenario for MS Dhoni in the 2019 World Cup. 

"Lord's final - Pakistan's Amir bowling in the final over - India need 6 runs and MS Dhoni hits it out of the stands. And he would then celebrate like he did in the 2011 World Cup," said Gavaskar.

However, Gavaskar termed Kapil as India's greatest ever cricketer given his talent with bat and ball. 

Dhoni not only won the 50-over World Cup for India in 2011 but is the only skipper in the world to have won all major ICC trophies i.e. World T20 and Champions Trophy.
