The Jammu and Kashmir pacer claims the first hat-trick of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season.
Ranji Trophy 2018-19 saw its first hat-trick on Friday as Jammu and Kashmir pacer Mohammed Mudhasir rattled the Rajasthani batsmen on Day 2 of their match in Jaipur. And it wasn't just a hat-trick, Mudhasir managed to take four wickets from four consecutive deliveries as he dismissed Chetan Bist, Tajinder Singh, Rahul Chahar and Tanvir Mashart Ul-Haq.
This is only the second time in Ranji Trophy history that a player has taken four wickets in four balls. Shankar Saini was the first person to achieve this feat. He did so for Delhi in November 1988, in a match against Himachal Pradesh.
Put into bat first at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Rajasthan were cruising at 329 for 3 with Bist and Ashok Maneria at the crease. But in the 97th over, Mudhasir broke the partnership and got rid of Maneria for 59. Two overs later, the fast-bowler turned the game on its head by taking four wickets in a row. The biggest one being that of opening batsman and wicket-keeper Bist for 159.
Rajasthan's innings folded up for 379 in the 110th over, with Mudhasir bagging figures of 5 for 90 from 29 overs. This was the 30-year-old's fifth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.
In reply, J&K were reduced to 148 for 6 by the 51st over, with leg-spinner Chahar picking three wickets. Skipper Parvez Rasool narrowly missed a half-century as he fell to Chahar for 47.
