'Magical' Mayank Agarwal breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record in Vijay Hazare Trophy final

Mayank Agarwal ended his dream run in the Vijay Hazare trophy on a high note by scoring 90 runs in the final against Saurashtra at Ferozeshah Kotla on Tuesday. With this innings, Mayank became became the first Indian batsman to score over 700 runs in a List A series. 

The Karnataka batsman scored 723 runs in the ongoing tournament and went past Sachin Tendulkar's record for highest runs in any list A series. Sachin had scored 673 runs in 2003 Cricket World Cup.

Mayank failed to score his fourth century of the tournament, ending the Vijay Hazare trophy with scores of 109, 84, 28, 102, 89, 140, 81 and 90.

Agarwal's 2,218 runs is the highest by anyone in a single Indian domestic season. Having become the first-ever Indian to break the 2,000-run barrier couple of days back, he also has distinction of scoring 1,160 runs, including five hundreds and two fifties, to become the highest run getter in the Ranji Trophy this season. 

By scoring 90 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final on Tuesday, Agarwal has scored a half-century or more in nine out of 10 innings in the tournament. His staggering list of 77, 109, 84, 28, 102, 89, 140, 81 and 90 (total 800) could well have been enough to impress any selector on any other occasion.

During his 81-run knock against Maharashtra in semi-final at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground, Mayank created history in Vijay Hazare Trophy by becoming the highest run-maker in one season, surpassing Dinesh Karthik’s record of 607 runs, set last year at the same venue.
