Kohli missed the final two ODIs and the three-match T20I series against New Zealand earlier this month. In his absence, Rohit Sharma took over the charge of the Indian team.
Meanwhile, the twenty-one-year-old Mayank Markande of Mumbai Indians received his maiden India call as he was added in the T20I squad for the Australia series.
India and Australia are scheduled to lock horns in five One-Day International (ODI) and two twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) later this month.
The tour is set to start in Bengaluru with a T20I and end with an ODI in Delhi on March 13.
Visakhapatnam will host the second T20I before the ODIs kick-off in Hyderabad on March 2 and the other matches in Nagpur, Ranchi and Mohali.
The series will be crucial for both the sides considering the ICC Cricket World Cup, which will begin at the end of May and both the sides will want to hone their sides before the multi-nation event.
While the Aussies are the defending champions, Virat Kohli's India is being considered as one of the favouirtes to lift the trophy this time along with hosts England.
