New Zealand skipper Tom Latham was delighted with his side's performance as they cruised to a four-wicket win against India during the first ODI at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Wednesday (February 5).

With this win, the Kiwis have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

Batsmen Ross Taylor scored an unbeaten ton and Tom Latham scored 69 as they powered the Kiwi side to their first victory since India landed on their shore.

Speaking at the post-match trophy ceremony, Latham was elated with the performance that his side managed to pull off.

"A great performance from the guys, it was nice to keep our composure at the end and get across the line," Tom said.

"For us, it was about building partnerships. The total was a little more than what we would have liked to chase. But we managed to get off to a good start and keep wickets in hand."

The Men in Blue could not defend their mammoth 347 total as seasoned Ross Taylor anchored the Kiwi chase with an unbeaten 109 run-knock.

The Indian bowlers struggle continued as the hosts overhauled the target with 11 balls to spare.

Speaking about the second ODI clash between the two sides, the Blackcaps skipper said: "We saw how hard it was to defend with the left-right combination. It’s nice to make winning contributions."

"The way Ross played was fantastic. We weren’t quite where we wanted to be with the ball. So we got to improve and hopefully, we will play the perfect game at Eden Park."

New Zealand are set to take on India in Auckland on Saturday (February 8) for the second ODI match of the series.
