'It is going to bury the IPL': How Twitter reacted to ECB's new 100-ball cricket competition

England and Wales Cricket Board has surprised the cricket world by proposing an eight-team men’s and women’s domestic competition of 100-balls-a-side. The competition if approved will begin in 2020.

The proposed format for the new eight-team tournament would see each team face 15 six-ball overs followed by an additional 10 deliveries.

There were some very interesting reactions to the news. Here's how twitter reacted to the new proposed 100-ball cricket: Former England captain Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) thinks cricket might already be too complicated.

Guardian writer Barney Ronay made a bold prediction.

However, Cricket writer Tim Wigmore seemed to disagree.

Many user questioned the need of a 100-ball format.

Just looked up '100-ball cricket' in the Oxford English Dictionary and it says: A gimmick designed to make a complicated game even more complicated, with 15x6 ball overs & 1x10 ball over. Hailed as "a fresh and exciting idea", it is, rather like T20, about as exciting as Brexit.

Here's an interesting idea.

Why not completely decimalise cricket? 10 ten ball overs, 10 a side, over in 100 minutes. Or preferably 10 minutes.

If you were going to go 100-ball, why would you not go full Napoleon and make it properly metric with 10 x 10-ball overs and 5s and 10s replacing 4s and 6s?
