Has there been a complaint of sexual harassment against a top Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) employee?

That’s been alleged by none other but Cricket Association of Bihar’s secretary Aditya Verma in his letter addressed to Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrator (COA) chief Vinod Rai late on Friday.

As per the letter in possession of DNA, Verma has accused Rai of allegedly “keeping quiet about a case of sexual harassment against an employee of the BCCI”.

Verma has not stopped there and further blamed Rai in his duty in failing to initiate any internal inquiry, as made compulsory by Apex Court in Vishakha guidelines for use in India in cases of sexual harassment. Verma further blamed Rai that he also failed in his duty of forwarding the matter to the District Complaints Committee in the absence of any existing system within the BCCI to handle any sexual harassment cases.

It must be mentioned here that BCCI’s own complaint committee was formed in April 2018.

“It is disgraceful that you have even acted against the law to save a very senior employee who presently owes allegiance to you.” alleged Verma in his communication to Rai.

DNA spoke to Verma who pointed fingers towards a very senior employee of the BCCI hired during the SC spot-fixing case only. “This particular employee managed to force this female employee to return back to her duties, even after informing her colleagues of being harassed by her senior,” was how Verma described the entire incident.

When further enquired if he has this letter written by this lady employee in his possession? Verma replied: “When the time comes, the communication would also be made public (without disclosing the name of the unfortunate employee who was subject to harassment),” threatened Verma.

DNA wishes to clarify that since the letter came in very late in the evening, neither Rai or the employee in question were contacted.

DNA also wishes to clear that this matter is not any new one and it was brought to this correspondent’s notice about two months back. But since there was no formal complaint letter of the said female employee or the one by any whistle blower, it chose to ignore the matter of this sensitive nature.
