Due to injury to Shreyas Iyer, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) had to search for a new captain and now they handed over the responsibility to young-lad Rishabh Pant.

The franchise announced the 23-year old to be their new leader for the 2021 season as Iyer, who injured his left shoulder during the India-England ODI series, is set to undergo surgery.

However, soon after the news of the wicket-keeper batsman being appointed as skipper broke out, IPL fans started flooding Twitter with memes, jokes and even questions.

While many congratulated Pant on his new achievement, there were some who asked how was the young boy chosen over the experienced players like Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin and even new addition Steve Smith - who have all captained different IPL franchises before.

On his new role, Pant in a statement said, "Delhi is where I grew up, and where my IPL journey began six years ago. To lead this team one day is a dream I`ve always harboured.
