IPL 2022: Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma's half-century in vain as RR beat MI by 24 runs

The trend of winning the toss and opting to bowl first continued in this match but this time around the team chasing the target was not able to succeed as the Rajasthan Royals won the match against Mumbai Indians by 24 runs.

When asked to bat first by Rohit Sharma, RR's openers Jos Buttler and Yashaswi Jaiswal started the innings cautiously but soon Buttler lost his opening partner in the 3rd over. Soon Jos Buttler started to counterattack and smashed 26 runs of Basil Thampi's over and turned the tide in favor of his team and the runs started to flow for the Rajasthan Royals from both ends as Simron Hetmyer contributed 35 runs in 14 deliveries whereas Sanju Samson made 30 runs in 21 deliveries.

Jos Buttler was played a heroic knock for his team and ended up scoring his 2nd IPL century before getting out on 100 runs of 68 deliveries and Rajasthan gave Mumbai Indians a target of 194 runs.

Mumbai Indians had a scratchy start to their chase as they lost Rohit Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh by the end of 4 overs. But their new recruit, Tilak Verma and Ishan Kishan steadied the MI innings. But once the powerplay was over and the field was spread out, the left-handed duo started to take singles and doubles. 

As soon as the Rajasthan Royals spinners came into the attack, both the batters started to smash boundaries all over the park. Tilak Verma especially took the charge and scored the majority of runs in the partnership. Ishan Kishan scored his 5th successive half-century in the IPL before getting out to Navdeep Saini and soon after Ishan Kishan, Tilak Verma also gave away his wicket to Ravichandran Ashwin. He scored impressive 61 runs in 33 deliveries.

With two new batsmen in the crease and 58 required off the last 5 overs, RR captain Sanju Samson brought back Yuzvendra Chahal to the attack and he bowled the over of the match as he conceded just 1 run and managed to take 2 important wickets. 

There was too much to be left to do for Keron Pollard in the last over as MI required 29 runs in the last over. Pollard managed to score only 4 runs in the last over and Rajasthan Royals won the game by 24 runs.
