The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 may see a mega auction before the tournament begins in the proposed window of April to May 2021, a lot of speculations about few players being retained while some being released are doing the rounds.

Now whether to conduct the mega auction or to stick with the status quo until 2022, the decision for the same may be taken by the BCCI in December. There are also reports that a ninth team might be included in IPL 2021.

In such a scenario, there will be many players who will be part of the auction pool and many teams will look to free some of their players. Which players might be released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2021 edition? Here is a potential list of players from Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals.

KXIP and RR's potential list

Kings XI Punjab's (KXIP) wait to play an IPL playoff match has now extended by another year. The KL Rahul-led side was already on the brink of being eliminated and had to ensure a win over CSK in order to keep its chances alive, but the loss got them out of the tournament. The biggest flop of IPL 2020 for KXIP was Glenn Maxwell.

The Aussie badly struggled and only managed 108 runs off 106 balls he faced. Surprisingly, the big-hitting batsman failed to hit even one six, a stat that has left many surprised.

Their newest buy could also be saying bye. Sheldon Cottrell managed only six salutes in six matches. In a hope that Cottrell will share the new ball with Mohammed Shami, the team management spent Rs 8.5 crore on him, but the Jamaican turned out to be a big upset and leaked runs at 8.80.

As for Rajasthan Royals (RR), Varun Aaron played just three matches this season. Over the years he has played for a couple of franchises, but failed to make an impact. He wasn’t able to pick even a single wicket and with 11.75 being his economy he could be released by the franchise.

Mayank Markande, who was traded from Mumbai Indians (MI) failed to get a game throughout the entire season. He was the find in IPL 2018 as he played for Mumbai and picked 15 wickets.

Shreyas Gopal and Rahul Tewatia's performance saw Markande not being picked. With his inclusion in the playing XI looking difficult in the next seasons, Markande might well be shown the door ahead of IPL 2021.
