Kane Williamson, the New Zealand skipper in all formats, has taken over the captaincy for the Sunrisers Hyderabad from David Warner in the middle of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the franchise has lost five out of their six games played thus far.

In a statement, SRH said, "The decision has not come lightly as the management respects the enormous impact David Warner has had for the franchise over a number of years.

"As we face the remainder of the season, we are sure David will continue to help us strive for success both on and off the field.

"The team management has also made the decision that they will be changing their overseas combination for tomorrow's (Sunday) match against Rajasthan Royals," the statement further added.

The decision comes three days after Warner took the full responsibility of losing his side the game against the Chennai Super Kings as he made 57 runs off 55 balls. "I take full responsibility for the way I batted, it was really slow, found a lot of fielders and I got frustrated," Warner had said after the match.

Apart from his innings on Wednesday, Warner's post-match comments for the last few games have also given hints of some differences between him and the team management as he termed Manish Pandey's exclusion in a couple of games 'a harsh call' by the management and after batting at No 3 in two games, Kane Williamson came in at No 4 against CSK and when he was asked about the same, he said, "I don't know [why Williamson came in at No 4], that's his position, that's where he bats."

Williamson, who previously led the side in 2018 in Warner's absence took the side to the finals of that edition.
