The depleted Rajasthan Royals without the services of Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes have an indifferent start to their campaign in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), winning just one game out of the four they have played. While their Saturday's opponents, Kolkata Knight Riders too haven't got off to a different start as they too after winning their first game have lost three in a row now and need quickly to arrest the momentum and stop their losing run as the games come thick and fast in this league.
The Knight Riders have dominated their Saturday's opponents, the Royals in the recent past winning four out of their last five encounters and will be looking to continue that record as they take on Samson-led side at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Head-to-head: 23 games, KKR - 12, RR - 10, NR - 1
The Rajasthan Royals and the Kolkata Knight Riders have faced each other 23 times in the 11 seasons (RR were suspended for the 2016, 2017 seasons) of the IPL since 2008 and the men in purple and gold have the edge here winning 12 games, while the Royals have won 10 out of those 23 games, with one being washed out due to rain.
The Knight Riders won both games last season against the Royals. In the first encounter, Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan's crucial contributions helped KKR post 174 runs in their 20 overs and they restricted the Royals to just 137, winning the game by 37 runs. While in the second games, captain Morgan's 68-run innings helped KKR post 190 runs in their 20 overs and they restricted the Royals to just 130, winning the game by a massive margin of 60 runs.
Ajinkya Rahane leads the most runs list
Ex-Rajasthan Royals and current Delhi Capitals batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who played for the Royals for seven years from 2011-2015 and then from 2018-2019, is the leading run-scorer in the RR vs KKR clashes with 338 runs. He is followed by former Royals all-rounder Shane Watson, with 304 runs.
Sunil Narine is the leading wicket-taker
The mystery spinner Sunil Narine has the most wickets to his name in the RR vs KKR encounters with 10 wickets to his name, while he is followed by fellow spinner Shakib Al Hasan in the third place with 9 scalps.
