IPL 2021: Piyush Chawla overtakes Amit Mishra to achieve this huge record during SRH vs MI game

Veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the defending champions, Mumbai Indians on Friday against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, became the highest wicket-taker for Indian in T20 cricket.

Piyush Chawla, who has played for Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Team India, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in T20s across international, domestic cricket and the IPL, surpassed fellow leggie Amit Mishra's tally of 262 wickets to set a new record of 263 scalps having played 250 games.

Chawla, who came into MI playing XI in place of Jayant Yadav dismissed Sunrisers Hyderabad's Mohammad Nabi to achieve the record.

Chawla, who has now played for four franchises in the IPL has 157 wickets to his name in the tournament, is on the fourth spot in the list of most wickets and is behind Dwyane Bravo (165), Amit Mishra (166) and Lasith Malinga (170).

Mumbai Indians were defending a huge total of 235 runs in their final league stage game and needed to win by 171 runs to qualify for the playoffs, even though they tried their best. Mumbai Indian won the match by 42 runs but eventually failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Ishan Kishan's 32-ball 84 and Surykumar Yadav with a knock of 82 runs off just 40 balls helped Mumbai Indians chase a miracle as they went after Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling attack and smacked everything on a fantstioic Aby Dhabi surface.
