Chennai Super Kings had a monumental turnaround in their 2021 campaign of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in their second game as they restricted Punjab Kings to a modest total of 106 runs batting first. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni had suggested that the wicket was tacky and chose to bowl first and his bowlers executed the plan to perfection, supported by a brilliant Ravindra Jadeja in the field.

Deepak Chahar ran riot in his opening spell as he didn't let any of the Punjab Kings batsmen let loose on a two-paced Mumbai surface. First up it was a peach of an outswinger to get rid of Mayank Agarwal in the very first over. Then after Ravindra Jadeja's brilliance to get rid of Punjab skipper KL Rahul with a direct hit, he foxed Chris Gayle with a knuckle ball.

If it wasn't enough, he had a bumper ready for Nicholas Pooran to send him packing without troubling the scorers and PBKS were four down inside the first six overs. Seeing Chahar was on a rampage, Dhoni gave him his fourth continuous over and he removed his namesake Deepak Hooda, to register his best figures in the IPL, 4/13.

After which, the Punjab side couldn't recover from those early blows despite the middle-order batsman Shahrukh Khan fighting a lone battle for the men in red. Shahrukh hit four fours and two sixes and was the main reason why Punjab could cross the 100-run mark.

Shahrukh scored 47 runs off just 36 balls but couldn't get a move on to push for a score somewhere around 120-130 and the Kings eventually finished on 106/8 in their 20 overs.
