The defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have had a tough run in the second half of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) losing three games in a row, first time since 2018 when they had lost their three opening games. MI have just four wins out of 10 games and are looking at an early elimination for the IPL this season but they still have the destiny in their own hands but they will have to keep winning everything from here.

Their Tuesday's opponents, Punjab Kings are in a similar position with four wins in 10 games but they are coming off from a thrilling 5-run win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and will have momentum by their side as they face the Mumbai Indians, whom they defeated earlier this season in Chennai.

The Kings have had a slight advantage over the Mumbai side in their recent meetings, winning three of the last five games between the two teams.

Head-to-head: 27 games; MI - 14, PBKS - 13

The Mumbai Indians and the Punjab Kings have faced each other 27 times in the 13 seasons since the inception of the IPL in 2008 and the men in blue have had the upper hand with 14 wins, while PBKS have won 13 out of those 27 encounters.

The last time these two sides met earlier this year, Punjab Kings won the game comfortably chasing 132 runs with 14 balls to spare and nine wickets in hand after their bowlers led by Mohammed Shami and Ravi Bishnoi restricted the men in blue to a low score on a sluggish Chepauk track.

Shaun Marsh leads the most runs list

Former Punjab Kings batter Shaun Marsh is the leading run-getter in the MI vs PBKS games, scoring 526 runs. Mumbai Indians hard-hitting all-rounder Kieron Pollard is second on the list with 514 runs, while skipper Rohit Sharma is in third place with 486 runs against Punjab Kings playing for the Mumbai Indians.

Lasith Malinga is the leading wicket-taker

Lasith Malinga, the former Mumbai Indians pacer and the current leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL has the most wickets to his name in MI vs PBKS games, with 22 scalps. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah is second on the list with 17 wickets, while ex-MI spinner Harbhajan Singh has 16 wickets to his name against Punjab Kings.
