Kolkata Knight Riders' problems from last season continued into the 2021 edition as the top-order of Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana failed to put up anything of note and the middle-order failed to capitalise while the young pace bowling line-up failed to contain the opponents and hence have just two wins out of the seven games.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, had a completely opposite start to their campaign as the inclusion of Glenn Maxwell and Harshal Patel added the influx they needed to shore up their respective departments - middle-order and death bowling and won five games out of the seven they played.

The Virat Kohli-led side has had an advantage over the Knights in the last five games, winning four of them as KKR won just one.

Head-to-head: 27 games; RCB - 14, KKR - 13

The Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore have faced each other 27 times in the 13 seasons of the IPL since 2008 and the Bangalore side have had the upper hand with 14 wins, while KKR have won 13 out of those 27 encounters.

The last time these two sides met earlier this season it was a Glenn Maxwell-AB de Villiers show as both explosive batsmen put on a display in Chennai heat as they helped RCB post a commanding total of 204 runs on the board, which proved too much for the Knight Riders as they fell short by 38 runs.

Virat Kohli leads the most runs list

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli is the leading run-getter in the KKR vs RCB games, scoring 730 runs. Chris Gayle, who has played for both KKR and RCB previously is second in the list with 631 runs to his name against the fixture in the IPL.

Vinay Kumar is the leading wicket-taker

Former India pacer R Vinay Kumar is the leading wicket-taker in KKR vs RCB fixture with 17 scalps, having played for both sides in the IPL. Kumar is followed by KKR spinner Sunil Narine with 16 wickets and RCB leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also with 16 scalps.
