Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) swatted aside Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Match No 31 of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) winning the game by 9 wickets with 10 overs to spare. Opening batsman Shubman Gill, after a poor first half changed his fortunes as he played with freedom and he was ably supported by the debutant Venkatesh Iyer, who took to the IPL like a fish to the water.

Since there was no scoreboard pressure, both Gill and Iyer played freely and took on the RCB bowlers from the outset and stitched an 82-run opening partnership as Gill fell just two runs short of his hallf-century but he had ensured that KKR almost overhauled the target without much fuss.

Iyer then finished the game with three boundaries off Yuzvendra Chahal to help KKR win the match with 60 balls to spare.

However, it was the bowlers, who set up the win for the men in purple and gold. Prasidh Krishna started the KKR bowling innings with the wicket of Virat Kohli and Andre Russell, Var8u8n Chakravarthy took over in support from Lockie Ferguson.

After the powerplay, it was all KKR owing to Andre Russell and Varun Chakravarthy. Russell sent back Bharat, who played a scratchy knock of 16 runs off 19 balls and clean bowled AB De Villiers with a fabulous yorker for a duck in the same over and RCB were now 52/4.

After Russell, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy decided to have some fun. He first sent back Maxwell getting a ball going through his gate and then debutant Wanindu Hasaranga on consecutive deliveries as Virat Kohli and co were now reduced to 63/6.

It was a matter of time after that, before RCB bundled out for just 92 runs.
