Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Ruturaj Gaikwad will end up with the Orange Cap for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he surpassed KL Rahul's tally of 626 runs in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Dubai on Friday.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had returned with scores of 0, 5 and 0 last season was dropped from the side and then brought back again and scored three fifties in a row and CSK won their last three games of the 2020 edition to finish a disappointing season on a high.

Gaikwad started this year in the playing XI but didn't have the best of the starts. However, he bounced back to form with a 75 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and a fabulous innings against Mumbai Indians but in the UAE it was like a fish to water.

He score more than 400 runs, just in the UAE including a century and two half-centuries, two scores of 40-plus and was one of the main reasons for CSK turning their fortunes around after 2020.

Gaikwad needed 24 runs to leave KL Rahul behind and was in danger of losing it too in the same game to his partner Faf du Plessis, who played a sensational innings of 86 runs but fell just two runs short of his tally.
