Delhi Capitals finally broke their jinx against the Mumbai Indians after a gap of five games and finally beat the defending champions on Tuesday by six wickets as they chased down 138 runs with five balls to spare at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This was Delhi's first win in Chennai in the IPL after 2010.

However, it wasn't a walk in the park for the last year's runners-up as 'the curse of the chase at Chepauk' did trouble them a bit in the latter half of their innings. Delhi didn't get off to a great start as they lost the opener, Prithvi Shaw, in just the second over of the innings.

However, Steve Smith coming in at No 3 didn't let Mumbai bowlers dictate proceedings as he joined forces with the current Orange Cap holder, Shikhar Dhawan, to take Delhi forward in the chase. They didn't hit out of trouble and played sensibly by milking singles and doubles as the required rate never went above 7.

The duo brought up a 50-run partnership and Delhi were cruising in the chase, just when the stand-in captain Kieron Pollard decided to have a bowl and trapped Smith in front to give them a huge blow. However, Dhawan continued his merry run and didn't let Mumbai come into the game.

There were some tense moments when DC lost both Dhawan and skipper Rishabh Pant in quick succession, but Lalit Yadav and Shimron Hetmyer ensured there were no more blips and guided their team to a 6-wicket victory, their third in this season after playing four games and they raced to the second spot in the points table, just behind the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Earlier, it was the veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra, the second highest wicket-taker in the history of the IPL, who bamboozled the MI batsmen with his variation of pace and guile. Mishra dismissed skipper Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard to end up with figures of 4/24, best for a Delhi Capitals bowler against Mumbai in the IPL as he played a major role in restricting Mumbai to 137/9.
