Chennai Super Kings skipper 'Thala' Mahendra Singh Dhoni departed for a duck after being bowled by Delhi Capitals pacer Avesh Khan in the 16th over of batting innings in his side's first game of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 edition.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and put the Chennai Super Kings into bat. CSK had a poor start as they lost their first couple of wickets in just the three overs. After which Moeen Ali and Suresh Raina helped CSk come back into the game as they took on the off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

After a good partnership, Moeen got out trying to reverse sweep Ashwin straight into the hands of the slip fielder. Raina too after scoring a fifty, was involved in an unfortunate run-out and had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.

Dhoni came in at No 7. After playing out the first ball, Avesh Khan's second ball skidded through in line with the stumps and Dhoni threw his weight behind the pull only for the ball to kiss his under-edge and crash into the stumps as he went for a duck.
