Chennai Super Kings' stupendous form in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) continued on Wednesday as well as the men in yellow beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad comfortably by 7 wickets chasing the 172-run target in just 18.3 overs.

Openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched a magnificent partnership of 129 runs off just 78 balls to finish the hopes of SRH, whatever they had after the last two overs catapulted them to a score of 171. Both Du Plessis and Gaikwad were sensible and watchful at the start, but once they had their eyes in, they became unstoppable.

The powerplay was decent but as soon as the field spread out, it was the Du Plessis-Gaikwad show through and through. While Du Plessis powered his way to another fifty, it was Gaikwad's elegance and timing that stole the show and the moment he got to his fifty, he took the mantle from the senior pro as he was severe on the Sunrisers' spinners, Jagadeesha Suchith and Rashid Khan.

It was an unusual day and a feeling for Rashid, who normally is a miser was expensive as the CSK openers wreaked havoc on all the bowlers and he too wasn't spared. Rashid, although came back with three wickets but was too late as he went for 36 runs in his four overs and CSK chased the total down with nine balls to spare.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner won the toss and chose to bat first. Even though they lost the wicket of dangerous Jonny Bairstow in the fourth over, the 106-run partnership between Warner and the returning Manish Pandey helped them come back into the game.

But unfortunately for the men in orange, the partnership came off 83 balls as the skipper Warner struggled throughout his 55-ball innings and was finding fielders left, right and centre. After the duo got out, Kane Williamson and Kedar Jadhav played some quickfire cameos to help them score 36 runs off the last two overs. But, eventually, that didn't prove to be enough.
