IPL 2021 auction likely to be held on THIS date: Reports

The venue for the auction is yet undecided and a call on where the IPL would take place will be taken based on how India-England series pans out

After the deadline for the retentions was met by each of the eight IPL teams, the auction date has been announced by the BCCI for the upcomig season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to reports, the auction for the IPL 2021 is likely to take place on February 18.

A BCCI source talking to the agency PTI said, "The auction will be held on February 18. The venue is yet to be decided."

While all the teams announced their releases and retentions on January 20, with 57 players being released in total. While Royal Challengers Bangalore released the most number of players, i.e., 10, the Sunrisers Hyderbad released the least with only five.

Since then the teams have also started the trade-offs as the trading window is open till February 4. Delhi Capitals has traded their two all-rounders Daniel Sams and Harshal Patel to the RCb, while the Rajasthan Royals who let go off their skipper Steve Smith, have traded wicket-keeper batsman Robin Uthappa to the Chennai Super Kings.

RCB and Kings XI Punjab will be the most active teams, as they have the most slots remaining to be filled as the highest amount of purses left, while sides like Kolkata Knight Risers, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and the defending champions Mumbai Indians, just need to fill a couple of gaps as those sides have retained most of their core players.
