IPL 2019: 'He's a great player in shorter format,' Ganguly heaps praise on Yuvraj

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has shown his happiness after Yuvraj Singh was picked up by Mumbai Indians to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019.

The Indian all-rounder who had played under the captaincy of Ganguly in the Indian cricket team was bought for Rs. 1 crore which was his base price in the second round of the auction.

The 46-year-old Ganguly extended his wishes for Yuvraj on Twitter saying that he has been a great player for the country in the shorter format and that he is extremely happy to see him play for the Mumbai franchise.

Yuvraj has played with Kings XI Punjab, Pune Warriors India, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the previous editions. But due to health issues and poor performance he wasn’t picked up in the first round of the auction.

The 37-year-old’s averages a bit over 28 in the shortest format of the game for India. He has the highest score of 77 not out.

Apart from Yuvraj, Mumbai Indians also recalled veteran Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga from the auction for Rs. 2 crores. The specialist death bowler had served as the mentor in the previous edition for the franchise.

The other inclusions made by Mumbai Indians are Anmolpreet Singh, Barinder Sran, Pankaj Jaiswal and Rasikh Dar.
