A fine bowling display by Delhi bowlers saw a Chris Gayle-less Punjab failing to get the same momentum they have achieved in their previous matches.

Liam Plunkett was the main bowler for Delhi with bowling figures of 3/17 in his four overs. Plunkett took the important wicket of KL Rahul (23), Mayank Agarwal (21) and Karun Nair (34). All these batsmen got starts but failed to take it beyond that. Wickets fell regularily for Punjab.  Plunkett was well-supported by Trent Boult (2/21) and Avesh Khan (2/36).

Punjab lost Aaron Finch, promoted in the absence of Gayle, in the second over. They kept losing wickets after that at regular intervals. Yuvraj Singh again failed with the bat with only 14.

David Millers hit 26 off 19 to get KXIP past 140.

Earlier, Chris Gayle was ruled out of the IPL 2018 match due to fitness issues. Punjab skipper R Ashwin said at the toss, "he's a bit sore."

While Aaron Finch opened with KL Rahul, Gayle was replaced by David Miller who came to bat at number six position.
