Indian left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha has announced his retirement from international and first-class cricket with immediate effect.

The veteran bowler took to his official Twitter handle to confirm the news and thanked everyone for their relentless support.

“It’s time I move on to the next phase of my life. The love and support of each and every individual will always remain with me and motivate me all the time,” Pragyan Ojha tweeted.

"I am writing this letter to tender my formal retirement from international and first-class cricket with immediate effect," Ojha said in a statement on his Twitter account.

"To be an Indian cricketer and represent the country at the highest level was always a dream I cherished as a youngster.

"I fall short of words to describe how fortunate I have been to have lived my dream and earned the love and respect of my fellow countrymen," he added.

The 33-year-old last played for India in 2013 during Sachin Tendulkar's farewell Test against West Indies in Mumbai.

He accounted for 113 dismissals in just 24 Tests and represented India in 18 ODIs and 6 T20Is, where he bagged 21 and 10 wickets respectively.

In the Indian Premier League, he represented the now-defunct Deccan Chargers and was part of the title-winning team in 2009.

He even played for Mumbai Indians and his last appearance in the IPL came in the year 2015. Having played 92 games in IPL, he bagged a total of 89 wickets.
