CRICKET
The Indian cricket team has a jam-packed schedule from 2021 to 2023 with three World Cups and crucial foreign tours.
The Indian cricket team’s schedule for the next two years is out and it is jam-packed. Virat Kohli’s team will be playing non-stop cricket for close to 15 months starting from the current series against England all the way until the 2022 World Cup in Australia. After that, the tours will get only more intense as teams gear up for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 that will be held in India. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the years from 2021 to 2023 will see three World Cups, including two World T20s and the ODI World Cup. India will host the 2021 World T20 as well as the 2023 ODI World Cup. Australia will host the 2022 World T20 which was initially scheduled for 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic. Here is the full schedule of India in 2021 and 2022
April to May 2021 – Indian Premier League
After the end of the England series that will end in March with four Tests, five Twenty20 Internationals and three ODIs, India will play the IPL and mostly it will be held in the country. The 2020 edition was shifted to the UAE due to the coronavirus pandemic.
June to July 2021
Even after the end of the IPL, India has a jam-packed schedule. India may have to travel to Lord’s for the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand. After the IPL, India is scheduled to play three ODIs and five Twenty20 Internationals in Sri Lanka. However, they will stay in Sri Lanka till July as they will be defending their Asia Cup title.
July 2021
Immediately after the Asia Cup, India will tour Zimbabwe for three ODIs but most senior players will skip the tour as they prepare for another major series.
July to September 2021
India will then travel to England for a five-Test series which will be grueling. This will be the first series in the new ICC World Test Championship cycle and they will have to hope that they can get the better of England this time after three failed attempts in 2011, 2014 and 2018.
October 2021
India will host South Africa for three ODIs and five Twenty20 Internationals. The ODIs are being played after the initial series in March 2020 was abandoned due to the coronavirus pandemic.
October to November 2021
India will host the ICC World T20 for the second time, having hosted it in 2016. West Indies are the current champions and they will get a chance to defend it again.
November to December 2021
India will then host New Zealand for two Tests and three T20Is. After the end of the series, India will then tour South Africa for three Tests and three Twenty20 Internationals. This would be a great chance for India to finally conquer the one nation where they have never won a series.
January to March 2022
India will then host the West Indies for three ODIs and three T20Is in January while Sri Lanka will play three Tests and three T20Is from February to March. The Tests are part of the ICC World Test Championship. Following the end of the Sri Lanka series, India will then go to New Zealand for three ODIs.
April to May 2022
The IPL will be played, this time with either nine teams or 10 teams. This could make the tournament longer.
July to August 2022
The Indian cricket team takes a break after 16 months in June with no action scheduled but in July and August, India will travel to England and West Indies for three ODIs and three T20Is in both countries respectively.
September 2022
India will be playing the Asia Cup in a venue which is not yet been decided. It could possibly be the UAE, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh.
October to November 2022
The Indian cricket team will be busy Down Under for the ICC World T20 which will be held for the first time in Australia. This tournament was postponed from 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
November to December 2022
After the end of the ICC World T20, India will travel to Bangladesh for two Tests and three Twenty20 Internationals while Sri Lanka will visit India for five ODIs in December.
January 2023
In January, India will host New Zealand for three ODIs and three T20Is
February to March 2023
Australia will come to India after a gap of six years and this will be a mega-series. Australia will play four Tests, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals.
April to May 2023
Indian cricketers will be busy playing the IPL.
October 2023
The ICC World Cup will be held in India for the fourth time. In that interim, no series has been announced although India might play some ODI series in that period of time.
