When India take on West Indies in the third and final Twenty20 International (T20I) on Sunday, all eyes will be on stand-in-skipper Rohit Sharma, who will be eyeing to clinch a special milestone in the shortest format.

Rohit, who smashed a brilliant century in the second T20I, went past New Zealand’s Colin Munro to become the only batsman to have hit four T20I centuries.

The explosive batsman, who has scored 2,203 runs so far in the T20Is, is just 69 runs away from piping another New Zealander, Martin Guptill as the leading run-scorer in the T20Is.

Considering Rohit’s current form – three tons in seven matches – it won’t be surprising to watch Rohit clinch the pole position among the batsmen in the sho0rtest format during Sunday’s Chennai fixture.

If the Mumbai batsman does manage to get ahead of Guptill, it will be the first time that an Indian will be on top, in terms of runs scored, across all three international formats – Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

Legendary Sachin Tendulkar has been the leading run-scorer in Test cricket ever since he got past the great contemporary Brian Lara and then he has sat atop of the runs chart in ODI cricket as well since going past neighbouring rival Mohammed Azharuddin’s record in the early 2000s.

Since the inception of the T20Is, no Indian batsman has held the pole position in terms of runs scored so if Rohit manages to go past Guptill, it would certainly mark a significant achievement in Indian cricket and Chennai would hope to witness that on Sunday.
