The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the 15-man squad for India's upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa on Thursday.

Opener KL Rahul, who was in poor form with the bat during the West Indies tour for the 'Men In Blue' has been omitted from the squad as batsman Shubman Gill has been included for his debut Test. 

Gill has performed exceptionally for the India 'A' side and has been rewarded with the much-awaited call-up. Earlier, the 20-year-old did express his disappointment for not getting selected for any of the three teams travelling for West Indies but his time has finally come now.

Others such as Kuldeep Yadav, Ashwin and Wriddhiman Saha will be hoping to get their chances to impress Skipper Kohli to find a way back into the playing XI.  

With no KL Rahul in the team, Rohit Sharma is expected to get the nod from Kohli to open the batting with Mayank Agarwal against South Africa.  

Chief selector MSK Prasad also expressed how the team wants to give Rohit Sharma an opportunity to open the innings in Tests.

India’s squad for 3 Tests: Virat Kohli (Capt), Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vc), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk),Wriddhiman Saha (wk), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Shubman Gill. 

India will be taking on South Africa in Dharamshala where the first T20I international will take place on September 15.
