Ajinkya Rahane scored a century against South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. Rahane hit his 11th Test hundred and 2nd of 2019.

The ton ended a 3-year wait for a Test hundred at home when the India vice-captain went past the 3-figure mark on Day 2.

Rahane came in to bat on Day 1 after India lost Mayank Agarwal (10), Cheteshwar Pujara (0) and Virat Kohli (12) inside the 1st hour's play on Saturday.

Rahane along with Rohit Sharma resumed their batting on Sunday. Rahane got to his landmark in just 169 balls, having hit 14 boundaries and a six. He, however, got dismissed by George Linde.

Linde - who replaced injured Keshav Maharaj - took his first Test wicket with the help of Klaasen - the wicketkeeper - who got his first dismissal.

Notably, only in August 2019, Ajinkya Rahane hit form and ended a 2-year wait for a Test hundred against West Indies in North Sound, Antigua.

Rahane had gone hundred-less for almost 29 innings in Test cricket and more than 2 years in international cricket.

Ajinkya Rahane had even got to his fifty in just 70 balls -- his fastest fifty at home in the Test match.

Rahane's batting partner Rohit Sharma got to his 6th Test hundred as early as Saturday after going on a six-hitting spree.

It was also Rohit's 3rd hundred of the ongoing series and is now trying to convert it into a double.
