India v/s South Africa, 1st T20: MS Dhoni breaks another wicketkeeping record

It seems every time Mahendra Singh Dhoni steps out on the field thesedays he adds another record to his name. 

MS Dhoni broke the record for most catches by a wicket-keeper in T20 cricket during the first T20I between India and South Africa on Sunday. 

This includes his performance in T20 Internationals, Indian Premier League and other T20 matches.

Dhoni claimed his 134th catch in his 275th T20 match as he caught Reeza Hendricks off the bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. 

The former Indian captain surpassed Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara (133 catches in 254 matches). 

Interestingly, Dinesh Karthik is third on the list with 123 catches in 227 games. 

Pakistan's Kamran Akmal (115 catches in 211 T20s) and West Indian Denesh Ramdin (108 catches in 168 T20s) are fourth and fifth in the list.

Dhoni also has most dismissals by a wicketkeepers in T20 International cricket with 77 in 87 games including 48 catches and 29 stumpings.

MS Dhoni has become the the fourth wicket-keeper to effect 400 dismissals in ODIs on this tour as well.  

Wicket-keepers who have more dismissals to their name in ODIs than Dhoni are Kumar Sangakkara (482), Adam Gilchrist (472) and Mark Boucher (424).

Overall, Dhoni is third on the list of wicketkeepers with most catches in international cricket.

Former South Africa great Mark Boucher is the record holder with 952 grabs in 467 matches followed by Australia's Adam Gilchrist with 813 in 396 games.

Dhoni has 601 catches and 174 stumpings in international cricket.

India on Sunday defeated South Africa by 28 runs in the 1st T20 international at the New Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.

The second T20 international will be played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday, February 21.
