In Sri Lanka, particularly in Pallekele, Kandy, matches are typically not scheduled during the August-September window due to the monsoon season.
The cricketing world is eagerly anticipating the highly anticipated match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. However, there is a looming threat that could spoil this blockbuster clash. Recent reports suggest that thunderstorms may disrupt the marquee game.
The concern arises from the fact that it has been raining in Kandy for the past two days, and the forecast for September 2, the day of the match, predicts a 90% chance of rain. This raises the possibility that the India vs. Pakistan game could be washed out.
This potential washout would be a disaster for cricket fans worldwide, as these two Asian giants only face each other in ICC-related tournaments and the Asia Cup. The excitement and anticipation surrounding this match would be dampened if it were to be canceled due to rain.
In Sri Lanka, particularly in Pallekele, Kandy, matches are typically not scheduled during the August-September window due to the monsoon season. However, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refusing to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, Sri Lanka was brought in as an additional host at the last moment. As a result, selected grounds, including Pallekele, were chosen to host several games during the tournament, with the India-Pakistan match scheduled for September 2.
Looking at the history of matches held in Pallekele, it is worth noting that out of the 33 One Day Internationals (ODIs) hosted there, only three have been played during the monsoon season. This suggests that the chances of rain disrupting the game are relatively low.
While Pakistan will host only four matches, Sri Lanka will host the remaining nine games, including all of India's matches and the final on September 17.
