T Natarajan’s upward journey in the Indian cricket team continues. After putting in a magnificent performance in IPL 2020 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, T Natarajan was fast-tracked into the Indian cricket team and he made his ODI and T20I debut against Australia in Canberra. T Natarajan impressed with his magnificent performances in the Twenty20 Internationals which India won 2-1. However, with Umesh Yadav now been ruled out of the Sydney and Brisbane Tests after suffering a left calf muscle strain, T Natarajan has now been added to the Indian cricket team Test squad for the remaining two matches.

In a press release issued by the BCCI, it stated, “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named T Natarajan as Yadav’s replacement. Ahead of the Boxing Day Test, Shardul Thakur was added to the Test squad as Mohd. Shami's replacement after the senior fast bowler suffered a hairline fracture in his right forearm. Both Shami and Umesh Yadav will head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of their injuries.”

Rohit Sharma vice-captain

Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team for the two Tests in Sydney and Brisbane. This is the strongest indication that Rohit Sharma has passed all the necessary fitness Tests and he could be in line to feature in the Indian batting line-up for the Sydney Test. In Melbourne, Rohit Sharma underwent some intensive training as he looked to be in top shape.

Rohit Sharma rejoined the Indian cricket team in Melbourne after completing his 14-day quarantine in Australia having arrived in the country on December 16. There was plenty of confusion on his availability for the Australia tour as he was injured for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020.

Team India Test squad: Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, R.
