Australian cricketer-turned-commentator, Kerry O'Keefe, ridiculed debutant Mayank Agarwal and India's First-Class tournament Ranji Trophy on air during the opening day of the Boxing Day Test on Wednesday.

O'Keefe was on air at Fox Sports with Mark Howard and Shane Warne during the third Test between India and Australia when he made these comments. While discussing Mayank, who was still playing on 33, O'Keefe questioned the quality of Indian First-Class cricket.

He said that Mayank may have scored his 304 against 'some canteen staff or waiters.'

Mayank, however, proved the Aussie wrong as he became the seventh Indian to score a fifty on Test debut before he was dismissed for 76 from 161 balls at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday.

Later in the day, the former Aussie leg-spinner, O'Keefe later cleared the air as he apologised for his comments

"I was mentioning the runs Agarwal got in First-Class cricket in India and there’s been a reaction. There was no way I was demeaning the standard, it was tongue in cheek. There are lots of runs scored so apologies if anyone out there took offence,” he said.
