Batting first, West Indies posted a score of 207/5 after 20 over with Hetmyer played an entertaining knock of 56 runs off 41 deliveries.

On the chase, Virat Kohli played a captain's knock and remained unbeaten on 94 runs off 50 balls, guiding India to a six-wicket victory with eight balls to spare with KL Rahul chipping in a critical half-century.

Virat, while speaking at the post-match ceremony, said: “All the young batsmen watching don’t follow the first half of my innings. That was really bad and I was trying to hit the ball too hard."

"It was just about keeping up to the game because I didn’t want to put KL (Rahul) under pressure, so I tried to strike at 140 at least, but I couldn’t get going properly,” he claimed,

“I analysed what went wrong and played accordingly in the second half of my innings. I was trying to hold my shape and realised that I am not a slogger, so I tried to rely on my timing."

"Whenever I play T20 cricket, I am not someone who comes to the ground to hit the ball in the air to entertain the crowd. I focus on doing the job,” he added.

Kohli and KL Rahul (62 off 40 balls) knitted together a 100-run partnership for the second wicket before a rampant partnership of 48 runs with Rishabh Pant.

In the match, KL Rahul became the third-fastest cricketer to cross the 1000-run mark and also the seventh Indian batsman to reach the landmark.

The Indian opener managed to secure the grand landmark during his 29th innings
