Team India batter Shreyas Iyer continued his rich vein of form on the second day of his Test debut against New Zealand in Kanpur on Friday, November 26 as he brought up his maiden century. Shreyas Iyer looked in a hurry on the morning of Day 2 to get to the three-figure mark as continuing from his overnight score of 75* he smashed five fours, all off New Zealand's hero on the first day, Kyle Jamieson.

Iyer playing his first match had arrived in a tricky situation on the first day when India had lost both their batters Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara in quick succession.

After playing half-a-dozen dot deliveries he decided to take on the bowling but couldn't time it well and fortunately for him, the ball was far away from running Kane Williamson at mid-off. After that shot, Shreyas became a little more restrained, however, didn't curb his natural instincts.

Stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Iyer had to rebuild. The former played some eye-catching shorts and was looking to take the initiative before Jamieson struck again, taking his third wickets of the day, however, Iyer continued on.

He got an able ally in Ravindra Jadeja as both of them played the ball to its merit and frustrated the visitors. Iyer, after which brought up his maiden fifty in 94 balls as he helped India's score to get to 200.

He then just continued on and played some exquisite shots to complete his maiden Test century.

Iyer became the 10th Indian batter to smash a century on Test debut on home soil and 16th Indian batter overall.
