Defending champions India thrashed Australia by 74 runs to book a spot in the semi-finals of the ICC U19 World Cup.

After being put in to bat first by the Aussies, India's wickets kept falling at regular intervals in the quarter-final match.

However, a gritty fifty from opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (62 off 82 balls) and valuable contributions from Atharva Ankolekar (55 off 54) and Ravi Bishnoi (30 off 31) helped India put on a total of 233/9.

Indian openers Jaiswal and Divyansh Saxena batted slowly but didn't give away their wickets in first nine overs.

However, in the last over of the first powerplay, India suffered their first setback as Saxena fell on 14.

After his departure, Australia took two more wickets in quick succession. Jaiswal along with Dhruv Jurel added 48 runs for the fourth wicket as India looked to rebuild.

However, India again suffered a setback as the Australian bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals.

Ravi Bishnoi and Atharva Ankolekar stitched a 61-run stand for the seventh wicket which helped India get to the fighting total.

Coming in to chase, Australia did not get a chance to even settle as the opening batsman was dismissed with a run-out off the first ball.

Fast bowler Karthik Tyagi shined with the ball as he picked up four wickets.

For the Aussies, Sam Fanning and Liam Scott tried their best to help their side get over the line, but despite the former scoring 75 runs, it was not enough.

In the 41st over, Liam Scott too was dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi. Akash Singh dismissed Fanning in the next over.

Conor Sully got run out and Todd Murphy too was cleaned up in the same over as India dismissed the Aussies for 159 in 43.3 overs.

As India enters the semi-finals, they could face the winner of the fourth quarterfinals.

The fourth quarterfinals are being played between Pakistan and Afghanistan and if the former win their clash, the young Indian lads could face neighbours in the semifinals.
