A clinical Bangladesh won the match by 84 runs at Al Amerat Cricket Ground, on Thursday, October 21.

An explosive half-century in 28 balls by captain Mahmudullah put Bangladesh in the driving seat. A crucial 46 of 37 balls by all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan took Bangladesh to a total of 181 runs after losing 7 wickets after 20 overs. Liton Das and Afif Hossain also starred with a bat putting up 29 and 21, respectively.

Minnows Papua New Guinea couldn’t revive after a dismal show in the field and never looked like even challenging Bangladesh’s mammoth total. PNG had lost 6 wickets with just 24 runs on board at one stage.

Crumbling under pressure, PNG batsmen went back to the pavilion one after the other, resulting in the team getting bowled out for a meagre 97 in 19 overs and 3 balls. The only saving grace during a dismal batting performance for PNG was Kiplin Doriga who scored 46 not-out from 34 balls.

Shakib completed another fine all-round performance picking up 4 wickets for just 9 runs while Mohammad Saifuddin claimed 2 scalps for 21 runs.

The comfortable win means that Bangladesh have now qualified for the Super-12 round of the T20 World Cup 2021.
