Happy Birthday Ravi Shastri: Virat Kohli to BCCI - wishes pour in as Team India coach turns 57

The former bowler turned batsman Ravi Shastri is the current head coach of the Indian national cricket team. The man turns 57 today (27 May).

Shastri was team director in 2015, a commentator in 2011, 2007, 2003, 1999 and 1996 and played the World Cups in 1992 and 1987.

On his birthday, players took to Twitter to wish the coach a very happy birthday.

The now coach represented the India national cricket team as a player between 1981 and 1992 in both Tests and ODIs.

He had started his career as a left-arm spin bowler but transformed into a batting all-rounder. In a career spanning over 12 years, Shastri scored 3,830 runs in Test matches and claimed 151 wickets.

Shastri holds many interesting records as a player. He was the first Indian batsmen to score six consecutive sixes in an over in first-class cricket. He was also the youngest Ranji player for Mumbai in 1981.

India at World Cup:

As far as India's campaign at the WC, they didn’t fare well in their first warm-up game against New Zealand. The batsmen failed to tackle the moving ball and were bundled out for 179 runs in the 40th over thanks to Ravindra Jadeja’s half-century.

The Kiwis chased down the total easily losing only four wickets then and the Men in Blue will need to get things right in the second warm-up game against Bangladesh.
