However, fans were not happy as Australia won themselves an advantage via Duckworth-Lewis and rain delay.

Indian fans questioned the working of the infamous Duckworth-Lewis Method as India ended up losing the match despite scoring 11 runs 'more' than the Aussies.

Glenn Maxwell (46) and Marcus Stoinis (33) has taken Australia to 153/3 in 16.1 overs before rain stopped play. After play resumed the match was reduced to 17 overs. Australia finished with 158/4.

This is when D/L method came into play and India were given a revised target of 174 runs in 17 overs. In response, India could only get 169 runs and fell short of the target despite scoring 'more' runs than the hosts.

Virender Sehwag, known for his quick wit on Twitter, came up with another unique take to describe the situation.

He wrote, "India scoring more than Australia yet losing. Australia ke score par laga GST bhaari pad gaya. But a good thrilling game to start the series."

Many fans also took to Twitter to question the outcome. Most of these attacks were focussed on the D/L method.

India will play Australia in the second match of the T20I series on Friday.
