Gambhir is known for his strong nationalistic views that he often shares on social media. The cricketer is being considered by the BJP to bolster its standing in the national capital.

As of today, it's the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that's ruling in Delhi. However, according to a report in Dainik Jagaran, BJP is all set to make Gambhir contest in the general elections from Delhi.

Gambhir, who enjoys a solid army of admirers, won't be the first Indian cricketer to join politics. The likes of Mohammad Azharuddin and Navjot Singh Sidhu have gone down that road too.

Gambhir hasn't officially retired from cricket yet, but there are great chances that he might switch careers soon. The 36-year-old has been a part of two World Cup-winning Indian teams. He has played 58 Test matches and 147 ODIs for the country in a glittering career.
