Former Team India cricketer Aakash Chopra has expressed his thoughts on Gautam Gambhir's statement of MS Dhoni not providing Virat Kohli with enough quality players at the end of his tenure as the Indian skipper as Sourav Ganguly did.

Gambhir -- who played under the captaincy of both Ganguly and Dhoni -- previously spoke on the topic of when Sourav ended his stint as the Indian skipper, provided MS with world-beaters when he took over the charge.

"When MS Dhoni finished [his captaincy stint], he hasn’t given enough quality players to Virat Kohli, apart from Virat Kohli himself and Rohit Sharma, or Jasprit Bumrah now."

"There are not too many world-beaters or probably people who win you tournaments," Gambhir was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

However, Chopra completely disagrees with Gambhir's statement and claimed that Dhoni too had a difficult task in his hands when he took over as the Indian captain.

"He is absolutely right that Sourav Ganguly gave a lot of match-winners to India. Dada even took over captaincy when cricket was in difficulty due to the black clouds of match-fixing hovering over it and the public’s belief lost. From that situation to develop a team that went abroad and won, the eye for talent was absolutely fantastic," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

"In my opinion, Dhoni’s task was very difficult and a person like Dhoni was only required there, who could manage the team tactically with care and also manage the transition. According to me, it is a wrong comparison and it is a slightly incorrect outcome as well. I personally don’t agree with the opinion, I feel the team that Kohli got was assembled with great love by MS Dhoni," he further added.

Ganguly is widely renowned for building a fearless squad of Indian cricketers while also incorporating and providing the freedom to youngsters like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, and Ashish Nehra during his time as the Indian captain.

Meanwhile, India under the leadership of Dhoni won the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ICC Men's World Cup in 2011 and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
