Former Team India cricketer Gautam Gambhir rained hell over former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector MSK Prasad's '3D' remarks for the omission of Ambati Rayudu from India's 2019 World Cup squad.

The incident took place when Gambhir, MSK Prasad and Krishnamachari Srikkanth were speaking about the selection criteria in Team India on 'Cricket Connected'.

During the discussion, the former opener put forward his own example and claimed how there was no communication from the board when he got dropped in 2016 from the England Test series squad.

"When I was dropped after the 1st Test against England in 2016, there was no communication."

"You look at Karun Nair who has said there is no clarity given to him. You look at Yuvraj Singh... you look at Suresh Raina," Gambhir said.

MSK Prasad had to face the wrath of Gambhir's criticism when he brought up the issue of Ambati Rayudu's exclusion from India's World Cup squad. Rayudu was destined to play as the no.4 batsman in the lineup but was replaced by Vijay Shankar for the grand tournament.

"Look at what happened to Ambati Rayudu -- you picked him for two years. Two years he batted at number four."

"And just before the World Cup, you needed a 3-D? Is that the kind of statement you want to see from a chairman of selectors that we need a 3-D cricketer?" Gambhir asked MSK Prasad.

Prasad did defend his move by saying that the India squad required a seam-bowling and all-rounder in the English condition and Vijay Shankar fitted that requirements perfectly.

The former BCCI chief also added how Shankar's top performances in domestic cricket helped him earn his spot in the side easily too.

"At the top (of the line-up), everyone was a batsman -- Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, there was nobody who could bowl. And someone like Vijay Shankar, who bats at the top-order, could be helpful with the ball in the English conditions," Prasad said.

However, Srikkanth did point out how there is a huge gap between domestic and international cricket.

"Not supporting Gautam or belittling you MSK but there is a huge difference between international cricket and domestic cricket," said Srikkanth.
