From 2011 World Cup final to innings of 183*: MS Dhoni interviews young Dhoni in viral video

On the 10th anniversary of India's 2011 World Cup triumph on April 2, Gulf Oil India released a video of former skipper talking to his younger self.

India's 2011 Cricket World Cup win completed its 10 years on April 2, 2021. It was the Indian skipper who rose to the occasion on the night of the final with an unbeaten knock of 91 runs off just 79 balls after the opening batsman Gautam Gambhir's innings of 97 runs providing the stability. On the 10th anniversary of the epic World Cup win, Gulf Oil India released a one-of-its-kind video featuring former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni talking to his younger self.

As soon as the video dropped on Friday, around 3 PM IST, it has gone viral where the younger Dhoni from 2005 asked some questions to the Dhoni of today, who was happy to answer them.

The video begins with MS Dhoni congratulating the youngster for bagging the 'Man of the Match' and 'Man of the Series' awards in just his first series for his sensational knock of 183* against Sri Lanka. Dhoni said that batting for 46 overs after keeping for 50 overs was not easy. The younger one replied saying the wicket was flat and consistency was the key. To which the senior Dhoni replied saying that is the real challenge to be desperate to perform in each and every opportunity you get to play for your country.

India were 7-1 in 0.5 overs chasing a 299-run target against Sri Lanka, which the opposition got owing to Kumar Sangakkara's innings of 138 runs. Dhoni walked in at No 3 and belted 15 fours and 10 sixes to finish with an unbeaten 183 off just 145 balls to help India chase down the total with 23 balls remaining.

After which the younger Dhoni asked the experienced campaigner about his favourite innings, to which he replied saying the '2011 World Cup final innings'. Dhoni, who had a lean patch throughout the tournament led his side from the front as he promoted himself above India's top-performer in the competition, Yuvraj Singh, to No 5. And, he said that the excitement of finishing that game with a six off Nuwan Kulasekara was something else only.

Senior Dhoni also elaborated on the significance of sacrifice and how it should be the top priority to excel at the highest level. Not just the batting number, but also soft drinks and butter chicken to remain consistent and be disciplined. Then, the younger one asked if he gave up all his favorite things including biking. The experienced one denied saying that he will never give up on that front as he has all his 80 bikes with him including the first one which according to him still runs.

The video was part of a promotional campaign by the engine oil company Gulf, #GulfDhonixDhoni, on the completion of 10 years of India's emphatic win.

Dhoni, who retired from international cricket last year on Independence Day, 2019 will now be seen in the Chennai Super Kings colours as he will lead the men in yellow in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
