Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid set to take charge of National Cricket Academy

Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid has been put in charge of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Likely to be 'head of cricket,' Dravid will be responsible to oversee the next crop of cricketers.

The formal announcement of his appointment will be made next week after the Committee of Administrators meeting, Indian Express reported on Sunday.

The new role will require 'The Wall' to keep a tab on the progress of India ‘A’ and the under-19 teams, design a development programme for junior squads and the women’s team, appoint coaches for the NCA and zonal cricket academies and oversee the injury management of contracted players.

The new designation means Dravid will no longer coach the U-19 and India A team. According to reports, Paras Mhambrey and former wicket-keeper Abhay Sharma will be in charge of the teams now and will report to Dravid.

While Mhambrey will be travelling with the India U-19 team to England, Sharma will take the A team to West Indies. Dravid will travel to both England and West Indies in July for a limited number of days while the teams are on tour.
