Farmers protest: Chris Gayle's video with pop icon Rihanna goes viral on social media

Rihanna, the Barbados-born pop star who was in the news recently for tweeting about the ongoing farmer protest in India, continues to receive plenty of criticism from Indian social media users. Amidst all this, a video has emerged of Rihanna meeting West Indies superstar and self-proclaimed Universe Boss Chris Gayle. The video is from the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup during the clash between West Indies and Sri Lanka at Chester-le-Street in Durham. During the match, Rihanna was seen cheering the West Indies team from the VIP pavilion in Durham. Sporting a pink colored hairstyle and a white top, Rihanna was the center of attraction in the match which Sri Lanka won by a close margin.

During the break, Rihanna entered the West Indies dressing room and met with Universe boss Chris Gayle. The 22-second video shows Rihanna getting an autographed bat with Chris Gayle and she is happily posing for the cameras with Chris Gayle. In the aftermath of her farmer protest, this video has now gone viral. West Indies and Sri Lanka battled it out in a close contest and it was Sri Lanka who came out on top with a close 23-run win. Avishka Fernando hit a century and solid knocks from Kusal Perera and Lahiru Thirimanne helped Sri Lanka put up 338/6. In response, Nicholas Pooran's gutsy century and a knock of 51 from Fabian Allen kept West Indies in the hunt but when Angelo Mathews removed Pooran, Sri Lanka had won for the third consecutive time against the Windies in World Cups.

Plenty of flak for Rihanna

Taking to Twitter, the 32-year-old pop star had shared a news story by CNN on the internet shutdown in several districts of Delhi's neighboring state Haryana after protestors broke barricades to enter New Delhi and clashed with police in several parts of the national capital during the January 26 'tractor rally' protest organised by farmers.

Rihanna has 100 million or 10 crore followers on Twitter. On Twitter, Rihanna ranks fourth among the most followed people in the world with 100 million followers. She has given some big hits like - 'Don't stop the music', 'Love the way you lie', 'Umbrella'.

Along with being a singer, Rihanna is also an actress. She has worked in films like Ocean's 8 and Guava Island. Besides acting and singing, Rihanna also owns a fashion brand in her name called 'Fenty'.
