England beat Sri Lanka by 211 runs inside four days in the first test to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series at the Galle International Stadium on Friday.

Chasing an improbable 462 for victory, Sri Lanka were all out for 250 in the final session on a penultimate day with Angelo Mathews top-scoring for the hosts with a fighting 53.

Moeen Ali was the pick of the England bowler, claiming 4-71 and finishing with a match haul of eight wickets.

The second match of the three-test series is in Kandy, starting on Wednesday, before the final contest in Colombo from Nov. 23.
